Polycarbonates also go under various names - Lexan/Makrolon/Makroclear.They are used mainly in the thermoforming of numerous components where impact strength is required ie. One form of 'Acrylic' is maybe better known under it's most common name Perspex.There are several different types of Acrylic going under the names of Lucite/Plexiglass/Perspex/Oroglass etc.
Celluloid was first manufactured in Birmingham,England back in 1855.It was made from Nitrocellulose & Camphor (hence the distinctive smell of many Celluloid items).It was first used as a replacement for Ivory.One of the most common uses today,is in the manufacture of Table Tennis balls,& if you break one open,you'll smell the Camphor.
